I Jumped the Gun

As usual.

Looks like my easy-peasy giveaway might not be so easy-peasy. I mean, I'm pretty confident I will get some ARCs, but my agent told me to hold off on doing anything official because Random House will be keeping close tabs on publicity for this book and I need to wait before I go all nuts and start making promises.

So, I don't really know what to do but wait and see a bit.

However, I'd still like to do something to get the word out when Book 2 of THE 13TH REALITY comes out next week. So here are the rules for the dumbest contest ever run in the history of mankind:

If you do something to promote my book/series next week, I will do something for you.

How's that? Dumb? Yes. Ridiculous? Yes. Vague? Uh, yes. But it's the best I can do.

No, listen. I'm sure I'll get some ARCs. And those of you who promote 13th for me will get top priority.

I must say, LexiconLuvr and LouMac have already set the bar pretty high!

Remember that I will be at BYU this Thursday through Friday for the LTUE conference, with the very first signing of Book 2 on Saturday at 2:00 in the BYU Bookstore. For the schedule of panels and such, CLICK HERE.

Other events:
Next Tuesday (Feb 24th) I'll have a signing at the Deseret Bookstore in St. George UT. On Friday the 27th, I'll be at the Logan UT Deseret Bookstore. I think both are at 7:00. Then Tuesday March 3 I'll be at the Orem UT Barnes and Noble. From there I got to Arizona for a week and a half and don't quite know the schedule yet.

All this should be updated soon over at www.The13thReality.com.

We've been talking so much about THE MAZE RUNNER, it's time to rev up the engines for THE HUNT FOR DARK INFINITY!!!! Next week! (Remember, it doesn't really have a hard street date, so it may vary when it shows up in your local bookstore.)

I can't be the first comment. It would go against nature and all the superhuman devoted fans out there. But, I'm stuck here in Idaho feeling bad I can't be in Utah. But, I do have people- literally from all over the world looking at my blogspt. Weird, huh? I would love to give you a good word about your second book. I'll write a whole blog post singing your praisess- it's not hard to do.

Hey, way to go Laura! First. What an honor.

Thanks for this - can't wait to see it. You're very nice.

So far we have LexiconLuvr, LouMac, and Laura. You know, you CAN do it without having a first name that starts with "L".

Har har.

Anyway, I'm making a list and checking it twice!

My last name starts with L. Does that count?

I will see what I can do about buying Dark Infinity. I want an ARC! As soon as I know it's out in my Borders, I'll buy it, read like crazy and write a post about it. I promise.

Ok James, I feel I have to clarify. I like ya, I do, but the whole promo thing really is a credit to your books and not just "fandom" love. Sure, the idea came from your "call to arms" but as I got into it, your writing and the stories are what really upheld this whole thing. I guess I just want to say that anything that's being done is only being done because you did an excellent job writing the stuff. It's for love of the books. Truly. (Sorry that its not just for love of you. Like I said, you're great and all...)
You owe it all entirely to your own merits--and I mean that in the most sincere way I can express. There is no empty flattery here.

Thanks for all the kind things you say. I do appreciate them.

Magenta, it doesn't have to be on Book 2. Just talk about Book 1 and mention that you're excited to get Book 2.

LexiconLuvr, I really appreciate that. That's the only way I'd want it.

Hi James,

So nice of you to stop by my blog! Your book will get the bump up my TBR list for that. :) If you'd like me to review any of your future books, do not hesitate to let me know!

James, I agree with LexiconLuvr!

"I guess I just want to say that anything that's being done is only being done because you did an excellent job writing the stuff. It's for love of the books. Truly. (Sorry that its not just for love of you. Like I said, you're great and all...)"

They said it perfectly. Can't wait for Book 2. Since I have to miss you at BYU, maybe I can get my Uncle Lonnie to buy and get an autographed copy when you are up in Logan. He lives across from the Logan Temple and spoils me rotten. (You could stop by and tell him that his favorite neice, Lonnie, would really appreciate that book!!!!) He would probably buy a million of them.

Anyways, can't wait, for Maze Runner or Dark Infinity! See ya soon James!

I will tell everyone about you--seriously. I am on goodreads and have tons of groups. In every writing/reading group I am in the topic "Read The 13th Reality books one and two by James Dashner! Highly recomended!" and I have already told a few of my friends, like the one I lent book 1 to. She is excited to buy the second one :D

Do you have a new email address yet so I can email you some questions about things I thought about to help promote your book?

My review of The Hunt for Dark Infinity is up! Come check it out here!

No blog post from me--I'd have to have a blog first!--but I've been telling everyone about your books. In fact, my sister is requesting it at her book store and through her library--in North Pole, AK (that's farther from SLC than Moscow, btw).

Did you know there are people out there who like your books but aren't fanatical? I've talked to people who loved book one but had no idea book 2 was almost here. Imagine the shame...

James Dashner said...

Wow, Suey, what an incredible review! Thank you so much. I am SO relieved that you liked it, and your son, too. He must be one stud.

Thanks to everyone else for the nice words. It means a lot that you want to help me promote this thing. Thank you thank you.

I've written a post about Dark Infinity. It says when it's coming out and some other basic info.

Does asking you to get your book in the BYU Bookstore for LTU&E count? You did all the work.

And congrats on the Whitney nomination. I really enjoyed JoCL.

I don't know if this is cheating, but I'm a manager of a bookstore and we just got your new book in yesterday. It's up on the front new release shelves and looks beautiful. Of course I get to tell all my customers about the newest arrival. I am really excited to read it.
